Sierra Leone international standout and Ohio State University sophomore sprinter, Maggie Barrie over the weekend began her 2016 outdoor season campaign at a meet in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she competed in the 400 meters.
The young star sprinter who is yet to turn 20 years old has already shown remarkable promise and quality as a world class sprinter to take Sierra Leone athletics to great heights and together with a slew of other collegiate stars in the US NCAA collegiate system that have committed to compete for Sierra Leone, one can safely say that athletics in the country is in for a renaissance.
Maggie is hoping to make the Sierra Leone team to Durban, South Africa for the African Athletics Championships in late June and the Summer Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil this summer pending support from the community and the government of Sierra Leone.
A campaign for community support to send a team of athletes to Durban, South Africa and the Rio Olympic Games in Brazil and beyond will be launched later this week in support of this new collection of dynamic athletes for Sierra Leone by the Sierra Leone Diaspora Sports Foundation, so stay tuned. #teamsalone #saloneriobound #saloneathletics
