Maggie was able to elevate her performance in both the 60 meters and 400 meters (indoor) events. she set a new mark and personal best of 7.49 seconds in the 60 meters, while in the 400 meters she not only set a new personal best of 54.15 seconds but a new national record for Sierra Leone, breaking the mark of 55.15 she set last year (2016). Maggie is also the National record holder of the Women’s 200 meters Indoor event with a time of 23.83 seconds which she also set last year (2016).
Sierra Leone as a nation stands at the cusp of a major breakthrough with several overseas and homebased athletes at the verge of becoming major world class performers. But if the infighting that currently plagues the nation continues it will all be for naught. The nation can make a major name for itself at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo if a focus is turned to developing and building the foundation with this group of athletes who have committed themselves to lifting the nation up.
