
CAIRO (2016 FIBA Africa U18 Women's Championship) - Debutants Madagascar earned their first ever win at FIBA Africa U18 Women's Championship as they hammered Algeria 55-27 on Wednesday.
In the day's first clash, between Algeria and Madagascar, in which both teams tried to avoid the last place in Group A, the islanders stepped on the floor so determined that they closed the first quarter with a 16-8 lead.
But Algeria fought back and cut the deficit to 19-14 at halftime.
Visibly more confident, Madagascar proved too much for the North Africans, particularly in the paint where scored 28 of their 55 points.
To make matters worse, the Algerians allowed Madagascar to score 10 points from fast break.
The trio of Jaofera Christiane, Tohi'Iaina Sambatrarimiora and Herisoa Ratovoarimanga combined for 34 points for Madagascar.
With this victory, Madagascar closed their Group Phase with a 1-2 mark.
