he Laureus Sport for Good Foundation South Africa and the Ignition Group, have announced their newly finalised technology partnership with a Sport for Good activation at LIV Village, followed by a cocktail function at the Ignition Group offices in Umhlanga.
The Ignition Group is one of Africa’s largest providers of technology, media, telecommunication and financial services, built around a powerful purpose – to make life better through innovative technology. They approach markets that are traditionally complex and contested, simplifying them, making life easier for their customers, businesses and partners.
Their strategy to ‘make life better’ aligns perfectly with the driving ethos of Laureus, who strive to ‘make lives better’ through sport.
The partnership will see a strong strategic alignment, being implemented in both the technology, and community assistance spaces.
As a key technology partner, Ignition Group will be pivotal in providing hardware, such as tablets and smartphones, as well as telecommunication access, in the form of data and airtime.

The Ignition Group and their 3,000 employees will be intrinsically involved with Laureus and their community projects, in their employee targeted catchment areas, focussing on sport, teamwork and uplifting communities through sport, where Ignition staff reside.
Founder and CEO of Ignition Group, Sean Bergsma, stated,
“We are incredibly excited about the Partnership with Laureus Sport for Good South Africa, and the Services and Benefits we, as the Ignition Group, can offer a foundation that does such amazing things. We are a business founded by passion, purpose and people and feel this key partnership with Laureus, will assist us in growing and developing our values in both the Technology and People space”.
The afternoon activities were attended by Laureus ambassadors; Bryan Habana, Butch James, Shaun Pollock, Corne Krige, Amanda Dlamini, Zanele Mdodana, Doug Ryder, Ryk Neethling, Deshun Deysel, Ryan Sandes and Chairman of Laureus Sport for Good South Africa, Morne Du Plessis. The activation featured a Sport for Good exhibition with the locally based projects; LIV Village, PeacePlayers South Africal and Indigo Youth Movement.
Morne Du Plessis, Chairman of Laureus Sport for Good South Africa said,
“This is an important partnership for us, as it allows our programmes access to the latest technology, as well as giving us the opportunity to teach kids how to use smart devices. Data is an expensive yet essential commodity today, and now our programmes can remain online at all times, which is a huge benefit”.
He added, “We are also really looking forward to hosting our first Ambassador Forum this weekend at Nambiti Hills Private Game Lodge, which has been made possible by the Ignition Group, through our new partnership. This breakaway will give us the opportunity to share information and facilitate roundtable discussions with the people who advocate the work of Laureus Sport for Good, and the impact it is making across South Africa and the world”.
