Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) have retained the Uganda Premier League title, their 12th title overall.
A 2-0 victory over struggling Lweza on Tuesday (9 May 2017) at the Philip Omondi Stadium ensured the Kampala-based club completed a successful defence of the title with two games to spare.
After a goalless first half, the home side which ended the game with a man less after Timothy Awany was sent off in the dying minutes, returned hungry for goals and Tom Masiko netted from the spot on 62 minutes. The visiting side tried to string passes together and level matters but found the KCCA defence too difficult to penetrate.
Substitute Geoffrey Sserunkuma sealed victory from yet another penalty on 80 minutes to take his tally 20 goals so far.
The league triumph serves a huge boost for KCCA, who travel to Rabat on Saturday, 13 May 2017 as guests of Moroccan side, FUS Rabat in a Group A clash of the second-tier continental club championship.
In the other games, Vipers humbled Onduparaka 4-1 at the St Marys Stadium, while Express lost 2-0 at home to Proline FC.
URA also picked a 3-1 win over Police to stay in third place and Bidco humbled Sadolin Paints 4-2, while Kirinya Jinja SSS also picked a 4-0 victory over bottom placed JMC Hippos. The Saints moved to ninth place after a 2-0 win over Soana FC in a match played at the Bombo Barracks ground.
