News about the death of Mr Diallo filtered the air in the evening of the weekend.
Complications from the infection were said to have arisen, two days ago, which led to him being rushed to the hospital.
Before his death, Mr Diallo had revealed that he was leaving office and not running for a new term which left the race to three fresh candidates including Didier Drogba.
An earlier conducted election for the presidency was suspended by FIFA after Drogba cried of irregularities.
His death comes as a shock and double blow to the African football family which lost a long-serving former vice president and ex-president of the Togolese Football Association, General Seyi Memene, in the early hours of Saturday, the same day.
