Mr Nunoo Mensah was elected last Tuesday at the ongoing WFA Congress in Algiers, Algeria.
The current board of WFA will steer the affairs of the sport on the continent for the next four years.
Speaking in an interview from Algiers, the President thanked the Almighty God for the honour done him.
He added that the Minister through the ministry prepared a supporting and recommendation letter with a good CV on his behalf which was sent to the WFA Secretariat prior to the election.
In his speech, the President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), Dr Tamas Ajan commended the Technical Head of GWF, Dr Kyle Pierce for his role in developing the sport in Ghana and on his achievement as the best Sports Coach in Ghana for 2016.
He applauded GWF for making weightlifting as one of the fastest growing sport in Ghana and assured the country of his support.
