The Ghana Skate Soccer Association is organizing a skate soccer match between Ghana and Nigeria dubbed ‘Binatone International Unity Skate Soccer Fiesta’ next month.

Skate soccer is a fast and physical team sport which combines soccer, skating and handball. It is played by people with physical disabilities, who roll around the field (a concrete surface) on homemade skateboards, trying to put the ball in the back of the net. Like soccer, the team that does not have the ball will do whatever it takes to prevent that from happening. While playing, teammates “skate” around on skateboards in a designated area looking to score goals on the opposition’s side.
Nigeria is very strong in Skate Soccer with the first game of the Paralympic sport held in Lagos, Nigeria. It has now spread throughout West Africa and Ghana is also making waves in the sport through the effort of Albert Frimpong with support from Binatone.
The most appealing thing about this sport is the incredible talent that the players bring on the platform.
They are able to overcome their challenges to play a sport that would leave spectators on the edge of their seats. This sport has already generated quite a bit of interest.
A year ago, friendly games were played on a weekly basis, on a smaller scale. At that point, Binatone collaborated with the organizers and supported the game for a year to train the players and build the teams.

Over 3,000 spectators turned up at the La Beach to witness a game Skate Soccer Fiesta between Accra Giants and Ashanti Warriors which the Ashanti team ran away with victory on penalties after a 3-3 stalemate.
According to the organizers, Ghana will host the rest of Africa next year in a bigger competition.
