The South Americans' high press perturbed Germany in the first half, and Eduardo Vargas thundered an effort off the crossbar with Marc-Andre Ter Stegen beaten. Germany made them pay for not extending their lead, when Lars Stindl converted Jonas Hector's cross for his second goal of the tournament.
After the break, Chile continued their attempts to press Germany into submission but lost their tempo towards the end as the game meandered to a draw.
FIFA.com team reporter analysis
"The first half was more lively than the second, when both sides seemed not quite to have settled for, but were also not quite willing to risk, the draw that now guarantees both of them will progress to the semi-finals with a point in their respective final Group B games. Chile were perhaps a bit closer to the win than Germany, but Low and the Mannschaft will probably take this point as a success, as they were able to challenge the Copa America winners for possession."
Steffen Potter, Germany team reporter
"Chile had another great start, and this time even scored early in the game, but were not able to fully capitalise during their best moments and ended up drawing against a solid German side. It is not a bad result considering the opponent and their respective positions in Group B. In terms of pre-match expectations, La Roja passed their exam."

Budweiser Man of the Match
Alexis Sanchez made a huge impact in his side's opening 2-0 win over Cameroon after his introduction as a substitute, and he was fit enough to start against the Germans. His impact was immediate from the off, embodied by his goal, and his drive sustained Chile's pressing throughout the match.
38 goals for Chile is the landmark that Alexis Sanchez reached in Kazan and in doing so, became Chile's outright all-time record goalscorer - surpassing Marcelo Salas.
