Sierra Leone’s wheelchair table tennis player, George Wyndham has suffered a three straight sets defeat to Thailand Wanchai Chaiwu in the on-going men’s class 4 singles clash at the Paralympic Games in Rio.
Wyndham was quickly beaten by his Thai opponent in a match that only lasted 13 minutes. The Sierra Leonean dropped the first set 11-2 in just three minutes while the second and third sets ended 11-9 , 11-9 with both sets lasting for 5 minutes respectively.
Unlike Friday’s match, the battle against Zhang lasted for 18 minutes in which the Chinese enjoyed an easy first game victory, 11 – 2 but Wyndham kept things much more competitive in the second tie holding his Asian opponent to 11 –6 win.
Despite losing the second sets, Wyndham continued his competitive display and ended up winning it by 9-11; he was however unable to hold on as Yan Zhang bounced back strongly to seal the match in the fourth sets 11-5.
Friday’s defeat seems to have ended Wyndham’s hopes of progressing from his Pool F classification where he sits at the bottom of the standing behind Yan Zhang and Wanchai Chaiwu respectively.
