“CAF is truly grateful to his immense contribution, dedication and hard work. Mr. Gamal was also well known for his unique human values, always at the service of CAF, their members and its administration. He has always displayed unparalleled kindness, care and affection for his colleagues,” these were the words of CAF President Issa Hayatou in a glowing tribute to former CAF Treasury Manager, Gamal Eldin Taha, in a condolence message to his family.
“On behalf of the CAF Executive Committee, the entire African football family and in my personal name, we would like to convey to your family our deepest condolences and sympathy following his death”, Hayatou concluded.
One of the most recognizable faces at the CAF secretariat notably in the Finance Division, he was among the dozens who made the crossover from the old premises at the Zamalek suburb of Gezira, to the current ultramodern secretariat in 6th October City, on the outskirts of Cairo.
He retired in 2013, bringing an end to a career of over two decades of tireless service to the continent’s soccer governing body. Gamal joined CAF in January 1992.
In accordance with Islamic customs, he has since been buried.
He was survived by a wife and three kids, including a son (Ahmed) currently with the CAF Services Division.
