Egyptian mini league stage debutants El Masry could go top of their pool if they could grab a win over Moroccan visitors RS Berkane this Sunday in Port Said. Berkane tops Group B with 7 points, two more than El Masry as the group stage enters its Day Four this weekend. Sudan's El Hilal has two points while Mozambique's UD Songo trails the pack with a single point.
Both sides played for a barren draw last week in Berkane, north east Morocco; a result that Masry coach and Egypt's legend Hossam Hassan considered as "very positive".
"I'm satisfied with the result", said Hassan after the reverse fixture. "It was our first game in a very long time, and we had a group of players having their first ever game with the team. We had a good away game against a strong team, and the coming will be better".
El Masry had four new players added to their continental squad, as they are targeting a knockout stage spot for the first time. Palestinian Mahmoud Wady, Ghanaian Torric Jebrin, Nigerian Emeka Eze and Mohamed Gaber are all available now for Hassan, who tasted continental glory before as a player for Cairo giants Al Ahly and Zamalek.
"I believe we can win in Port Said and strengthen our position in the group. Our target is the quarter finals, and then we will see what's next", concluded Egypt's former striker.
UD Songo entertains El Hilal in an earlier kickoff, also on Sunday.
