BAMAKO (FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2017) – Egyptian power forward Raneem Elgedawy will not be part of her side’s quest for the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2017 trophy in Mali from August 18-27.
The 20-year old, who has secured a scholarship to study at a college in the USA, is currently processing her visa and and is expected to arrive before August 20.
Ashour explained that no player will replace Elgedawy which means that Egypt will field 11 players for the continental showpiece.
Noor Ali, Radwa Sherif, Hala Elshaarawy Mustapha will pick up the mantle and are expected to march the physicality of the West Africans in Group B.
"Raneem is a very good player and she has been part of our training sessions until the last moment when she was called upon to go to the USA. We shall miss her but of course we have other players who can play in this position," said Ashour.
Egypt were drawn in Group B along with Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, Mozambique, Nigeria as well as the defending champions Senegal.
