The initiative is dedicated to supporting the growth of Basketball in Africa, and this year they are having camps in Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda, Botswana, and Senegal.
They have already been to Senegal from August 7-9, Ghana is the next from August 12-14. They will move to Nigeria from 16-18, Kenya from August 19-22, Rwanda from August 23-25, and Botswana from August 26-29.
Owinje said Giants of Africa brings top international coaching to Africa to help young African players develop athletically, establish life goals and refine their fundamental knowledge of the game of Basketball.
In its quest to develop Basketball skills coaching, Giants of Africa strives to foster participant’s development through life skills education as part of the summer program and also conduct local community outreach initiatives in each country it visits.
This year, the team will be supporting outreach programs by donating to the Village of Hope in Ghana and organize the clinic at the Lincoln Community School in Accra.
'Encouraging the dreams of African youth is at the core of what we strive to achieve with Giants of Africa,' said Patrick Engelbrecht. 'Basketball is a sport that has become increasingly popular across the globe. And we want to support African youth by using basketball as a tool to educate and teach core values such as dedication, discipline and respect for others.
''We believe supporting the infrastructure of basketball in Africa through coaching, facilities and camps imperative to create opportunities for the African youth to play and develop both on and off the court. It’s a passion for us to see the growth of Basketball in Africa. We are getting to realize our dreams. Parents must encourage children to play because it creates positive teamwork” Engelbrecht added.
The Giants of Africa officials commended EcoBank for supporting the initiative.
