The Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) secured their first points in Group D of the 2015 Africa Nations Cup Qualifiers with a crucial 2 - 0 away win over Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in Lubumbashi.

Firmin Mubele scored DR Congo's opener before Jeremy Bokila doubled his side's advantage a few minutes before the end of the game which proved enough to give them a much-needed win and leave Leone Stars rooted to the bottom of the table following two consecutive losses.

DR Congo were without Youssouf Mulumbu who picked up injury against Cameroon in their opening game loss, but coach Florent Ibenge gave the armband to TP Mazembe’s charismatic skipper Robert Kidiaba.

Sierra Leone was missing their skipper, Umaru Bangura and midfilders Alfreda Zagalo Sanko because of injury.

The Leopards came close in the 12th minute with their first goal opportunity but Anderlecht defender Chancel Mbemba missed completely from close range.

Just before the halftime break, the Leopards – who had been dominating in the first half but struggled to create chances – saw their first two shots land on target, just seven minutes after the break, the AS Vita Club striker Firmin Ndombe Mubele broke the deadlock from a good run behind the Leone Stars defenders and 10 minutes later, Mubele came close with his second but his attempt flew wide.

The other Group D encounter of the day saw Cameroon hammer Ivory Coast 4-1 in Yaoundé to move to the top of the table with six points from two matches.

Cameroon’s striker Vincent Aboubakar and Clinton Njie both scored twice as the hosts ran out comprehensive victors and the pair were also on target in the Indomitable Lions win over DR Congo.

Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure scored the only goal for the Ivorians 10 minutes after Njie gave the home side the lead.
