Lausanne, Switzerland, January 30, 2015 - FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° confirmed Mr Peter Diamond as the new TV and New Media Commission President at a meeting on Friday. Mr Diamond replaces Mr Fernando Lima, who has taken on the role of FIVB General Secretary.
In his opening speech to the TV and New Media Commission, President Graça emphasised the importance of television and explained how it had played a crucial role in the popularisation of volleyball in Brazil. He also underlined the need to spread the game to new markets. "We need to spread our market, but to do that we need to show people what volleyball is about."
Mr Lima added that: “Questions related to match duration and video challenges are examples of key areas where the TV and New Media Commission has to provide guidance to the FIVB, so that it has the confidence to move ahead. Some of the challenges volleyball faces are ongoing and broadcast standards are not at the same level in all countries. We need to improve the visual storytelling of volleyball. This includes working on how action is framed by cameras, how replays are used to show what really matters, achieving consistency across all top FIVB events and improving the distribution of volleyball. Volleyball needs to find a way to build its relevance.”
The TV and New Media Commission meeting is the fifth in a series of FIVB Commission and Council meetings taking place in the early months of 2015.
