At the meeting, the Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB) commended the contribution that Moroe, former president of the GCB and chairman of the bizhub Highveld Lions, has made for cricket in Gauteng and the bizhub Highveld Lions franchise.
Moroe’s replacement as president of the GCB and Lions Cricket is due to be finalised within the next month (October 2016).
Greg Fredericks, chief executive said: “I have had the privilege to work alongside Thabang Moroe for the past three years. I have constantly been impressed by the manner at which he has progressed from chairman of Dobsonville Cricket Club to his involvement in the GCB and bizhub Highveld Lions and how he stepped up to the plate when he was asked to do so at national level. We need more administrators like him in sport.
“As the executive head of the GCB and Lions, I have enjoyed his support which in turn enabled us to grow the pipeline, the professional arm of the game but also the hosting capabilities of the Bullring. I strongly believe that his contribution has created a firm foundation upon which the future successes of our organisations can be built.”
Thabang Moroe said: “I am confident that the GCB and Lions have capable directors that would be able to comfortably fill this position. I consider it a privilege to have been able to serve a game I love at a provincial level and look forward to making further contributions at national level. I strongly believe that cricket, and sport, has a bigger role to play in uplifting our country from a socio-economic perspective but that it can also play unifying role that sets an example of the potential of South Africa.”
