In a strong finish to the 2016 regular season, Meram recorded one goal and four assists in four matches throughout the month of October. The 27-year-old forward ended the year with five goals and a career-high 13 assists, which is tied for third best league-wide. A member of the Iraq National Team, Meram led Crew SC in assists while ranking tied for third in goals in his sixth season with the club.
The No. 15 pick in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, Meram proved to be a difference maker in a rematch with Chicago on Oct. 13, providing an assist in the 2-2 draw. After intercepting the ball in his own half, Meram served up a tremendous through ball for Adam Jahn on the counter who slickly finished his attempt to give Columbus an early 1-0 lead in the 13th minute (Watch Assist). Meram would connect with Jahn again a week later, setting up a 73rd minute goal in a 3-2 loss to the New York Red Bulls on October 16 (Watch Assist).
Meram closed out the regular season with his 13th helper on Decision Day in a 4-1 loss at New York City FC, providing a pin perfect cross for Ola Kamara who headed it home in the 59th minute (Watch Assist). The Oct. 23 match was Meram’s fourth consecutive game with an assist, a league best in 2016.
