Bafana Bafana have to bet Nigeria in the group stages if they are to have any real chances of progressing to the quarter finals. The two heavy weights were drawn together in Group A in the preliminary stage in Cape Town alongside Mali and Mozambique in what analysts have professed that it is a tight group.
Bafana coach Gordon Igesund told the local media that he is worried about the threat that Nigeria may pose to his side as he knows little about the squad that Stephen Keshi has assembled.
Nigeria are the current holders of the more lucrative Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) and will aim at getting a continent double by winning the tournament.
South Africa have had a tough buildup to the tournament mostly with a battle against clubs that did not want to release their players. This has hampered their preparations but Igesund believes that all is well in camp.
“It has not been the greatest preparation for us. We got players at a very late stage. But it is not an excuse at all. We are hosting the tournament and we are in a very tight group. We will be ready,” Igesund stated.
