‘Les Jeunes Lionnes’ of Cameroon held on to a nervy 1-1 draw in Yaounde to book their place at the expense of Flamingos of Nigeria on the away goal rule after a 3-3 tie on aggregate, whilst Ghana’s Black Princesses thumped Djibouti 10-0 to secure their place 19-0 on aggregate, both on Sunday.
Alice Kameni gave the hosts the lead in the 17th minute but midway into the second stanza, Nigeria brought in Precious Vincent who eventually fetched the West Africans the equaliser in the 78th minute. Despite the visitors’ late resurgence, the Cameroonians held on tenaciously till the end much to the delight of the home crowd.
In Cape Coast, the Black Maidens of Ghana had little trouble to dispatch off Djibouti with an impressive win. Abdulai Mukarama scored four goals, two from Nina Norshie and one each from Fuseina Mumuni, Victoria Teye, Barikisu Abdul Rahman and Azuma Bugre was enough for the Maiden to secure a record sixth appearance at the global championships.
Earlier on Saturday, South Africa completed a double over Morocco with a 1-0 away win in Sale to qualify 6-1 on aggregate.
The final tournament has been scheduled for 13 November to 1 December 2018 in Uruguay.
