The Djoungolo Primary School, located in Djoungolo near the Cameroonian capital, Yaounde, came to light on Monday, 28 November 2016 following a visit by a delegation from CAF attending the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon and UNICEF towards promoting the ‘together against the marriage of young girls’ campaign.

The CAF delegation was led by Leodegar Tenga, president of the Organising Committee for Women’s Football with Felicite Tchibindat, resident representative of UNICEF in Cameroon also in attendance.

The short but impressive ceremony also had some parents of the pupils of Djoungolo Primary School present as the message of the marriage against young girls was highlighted with Tchibindat leading the discussions.

On the other hand, the pupils engaged in some fun games and a mini-match featuring two teams from the school plus two players from the Cameroon women’s team squad, Jacquette Ada and Ngo Mback Batoum Augustine as well as Ghanaian duo, Florence Dadson and Priscilla Saahene.

After the four players signed some match balls and presented to the pupils who were so happy at the opportunity of meeting the Ada, Ngo Mback, Dadson and Saahene, whom they see on television playing for their respective national teams.

Soon it was time to bid farewell, and the pupils were presented with gifts and souvenirs from CAF, UNICEF, African Union and the Cameroonian Football Federation.

“We are happy to be here and to make the children happy. We thank everyone for the collaboration towards a noble cause to save our young girls from early marriage,” said Tenga.
