It was also to establish a network among the participating Media Officers, share ideas and exchange knowledge towards the development of African football.
CAF Executive committee member, Anjorin Moucharafou, who doubles as president of the CAF Media Committee tasked the participants to take the positives from the seminar to improve communication at their respective associations whilst pledging the commitment of the African football hierarchy towards the creation of an enabling environment for media practitioners to carry out their duties at various competitions.
Topics discussed included Media Operations during major competitions, CAF Media and Marketing regulations, General Guidelines on Corporate Communications (Internal Communication, External Communication, Public Relations, and Press Relations), Crisis Communications and the impact of Social Media. There were also presentations from Grigorios Biskos, UEFA Media and Public Relations Manager as well as Pablo Moussodji Ngoma , Head of Communications of the Local Organising Committee for the Total Africa Cup of Nations Gabon 2017, who enlightened the participants on the media aspects of the impending tournament.
In all, it was two sessions; the Francophone speaking group having their turn from 14-17 December 2016 and the Anglophone group, 18-20 December 2016.
One of the participants, an enthused Dounia Lahrech, Media Officer of the Morocco Football Federation (FRMF) was enthused said “it was a real pleasure to participate in this session which enabled me to strengthen my media capacities as a FRMF press officer. Also, I had the chance to meet my colleagues from other federations, some for the first time to discuss how to enhance effective communication at our respective federations”.
On his part, Bonnie Mugabe, Media Officer of the Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) said: “his was a valuable seminar which left me equipped with additional skills which will be vital in my daily execution of my work as a media officer. I enjoyed the sessions on communications planning, media management and crisis management as well as media operations at major competitions and how best I can be able to apply those skills gained in Rwandan context”.
Over 40 Member Association were represented at the second edition of the CAF Media Officers seminar.
The maiden edition was in held in December 2014, also at the CAF Centre of Excellence, Mbankomo.
