Brussels staged the opening leg of the showpiece event in 1958. The 2019 race will also mark 50 years since Belgian cycling legend Eddy Merckx claimed the first of his five Tour de France victories, and 100 years since the Yellow Jersey for the race leader was first introduced.
Details of Brussels’ Grand Départ have not yet been released. The city has staged Tour de France legs 10 times in the past, most recently in 2010.
The Grand Départ has also been held in the Belgian cities of Chaleroi (1975) and Liège (2004 and 2012).
