Brazil Training In South Africa

The Brazilians Sevens rugby squad will visit South Africa from 19 to 26 September on a training mission to help them prepare for the 2016 Olympic Games in their home country. The South Americans will host the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in three years time and, as a result, have gained automatic qualification for the Sevens competition at the international showpiece.

The team will be based at the Stellenbosch Academy of Sports for the duration of their visit to South Africa. The SAS training facility is also the base camp of the Springbok Sevens, the current Commonwealth Games Gold Medallists.

During their visit, the Brazilians will have several field sessions at the Paul Roos Markotter Stadium and the adjacent indoor centre, in addition to usage of the modern facilities at SAS.

They will also participate in several training sessions with the Springbok Sevens and will have the opportunity to sharpen up their fitness and training preparations against local university and club sides as well as the SARU Sevens Academy team.

Meanwhile, the Springboks Sevens are continuing with their preparations for the season opening HSBC Sevens World Series tournament at the Australian Gold Coast on 11 and 12 October. A top four spot on the World Series final standings will gain the team automatic entry into the 2016 Olympic Games.
