Former Sierra Leone Boxing heavyweight champion and President, Alusine Osaio Kamara alias "Scorpion" has called on both the Sierra Leone Boxing Association (SLBA) factions to find a way to resolve their impasse in the interest of the sport.
He said: “I am prevailing on both factions to put down their guards and throw no more punches.”
“What is now happening in the Boxing Association is contrary to what l know the Association stands for. It aggrieves me to hear that this once noble sport has been reduced to a laughing stock,” Osaio Kamara said in a disappointed mood.
“Boxing though a combative sport was known to have a very peaceful executive who are focused and speaks with one loud voice, “he added and asked where has that unity gone to?
Kamara who is now the acting President of Sierra Leone Handball Association admitted that, years back when he was appointed as chairman to probe into the Association’s problems, his task was done perfectly well and was complimented by a peaceful elective congress.
“I wish they had consulted with me then, l strongly believe that what has now happened would never have happened. Boxing is my baby and l pray that the appropriate authorities step in with the minimum of delay to avert this shameful act,” the former heavyweight champions said.
The Association’s wrangling as to who is eligible to summon a congress has divided their membership with two separate entities; the President, Eric Dura Sesay now has the support of his Vice ASP Muranah Kamara, the Sierra Leone Police club, and other members of the regions, while Secretary General, Christian Campbell is said to have his own delegates.
While Campbell and his cohorts held an elective congress on July 8th 2017 which saw Major Claudia Taylor elected President, President Dura on Sunday July 9th hosted an Extraordinary Congress which took the decision to suspend Campbell for alleged human-trafficking. July 22nd was stated as the date for their elective congress which will be held in the Southern Region City of Bo.
