BLOODHOUND SSC, driven by current record holder Wing Commander Andy Green, reached speeds of up to 210mph on the 1.7mile (2.7km) long runway. BLOODHOUND SSC accelerated at rate of 1.5G, reaching 210mph from a standing start in just 8 seconds.
BLOODHOUND SSC is powered by an incredible 135,000hp, which is more than six times the total power output of the entire field of starters in Formula One! To achieve this immense power output and the target speed, the project team is placing its trust in a jet engine, rocket propulsion and, not least, a variety of high-performance lubricants including Castrol's strongest engine oil Castrol EDGE SUPERCAR.
The BLOODHOUND Project is a global Engineering Adventure, using a 1,000mph World Land Speed Record attempt to inspire the next generation to enjoy, explore and get involved in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
