FIFA President Blatter has expressed his “profound sadness” over the passing of 30-year-old former South Africa international Richard Henyekane.
The forward or winger, who was on loan at Free State Stars from fellow Premier Soccer League side Mamelodi Sundowns, was killed in a car accident on Tuesday morning. Henyekane won nine Bafana Bafana caps between 2009 and ’13.
His many contributions to the game will be remembered, especially for having played for Bafana Bafana in the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ and for the game in 2012 where the Sundowns won 24-0 against Powerlines FC,” FIFA President Blatter wrote in a letter to his South Africa Football Association counterpart Dr Danny Jordaan, referring to a record-breaking match in which Henyekane scored five goals.
