The Sierra Leone male team defeated their Ghanaian opponents two sets to one in the finals of the qualifiers whilst the female team despite failing to reach the finals booked their place to the Nanjing Games after they finished in third place.
Head coach and leader of delegation, Coach Sorie was thankful of the team’s sponsors, Africell mobile company and Mercury International including the government of Sierra Leone through the sports ministry for their support.
He said the two team’s success is another plus for the Association and the players as they look forward to a successful competition in China.
The Men's competition features 10 teams divided into two preliminary Pools each comprising of 5 teams; Pool A includes Burundi, Ghana, Mauritius, Egypt and Benin, while pool B shows Namibia along with Sierra Leone, Congo, Rwanda and Nigeria.
On the other hand 7 teams participated in the women's competition, where they were divided into pool A with 4 teams Nigeria, Congo, Sierra Leone and Ghana. Pool B features Mauritius, Rwanda and Namibia.
