The Ohio State University Junior; Maggie Barrie on Friday set a Personal Best and new national record for Sierra Leone when she dipped past the finish line clocking the race at 52.27 seconds breaking the old record held by University of California at Davis alum Catherine Ugo Eke at 52.37 seconds.
Barrie who holds several Sierra Leonean records in the indoor 200 meters at 23.83 seconds, the Indoor 300 meters at 38.17 seconds and the indoor 400 meters at 55.15 seconds is the daughter of former sprint standout for Sierra Leone; Mr. Andrew Barrie.
She is well on her way to represent Sierra Leone at the IAAF World Athletics Championships this August in London.
According to IAAF current rankings Maggie is now ranked amongst the top 10 in Africa for her event and with the summer track season just getting set to heat up, Maggie’s trajectory to the top in global women’s sprinting is only now just beginning.
