
NEW YORK(Tuesday, May 30, 2017) – Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almirón was voted the Alcatel MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the 13th week of the 2017 MLS season.
For the second consecutive week, Almirón captured Alcatel MLS Player of the Week honors with a multi-goal performance, as the 23-year-old scored twice in Atlanta’s 3-1 victory over New York City FC on Sunday at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Almirón ranks tied for fourth in MLS and first for Atlanta with seven goals, in addition to tallying four assists this season. Atlanta is now 5-0-1 in matches when Almirón records a goal or assist and sits in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings with 18 points amid its three-game unbeaten streak (5-4-3 overall record).
Almirón completed his brace in the 23rd minute, once again receiving a pass from Gressel in the center of the penalty area and sending a left-footed flick to the bottom left corner of goal to push Atlanta’s lead to 3-0 (Watch Goal). With the score, Almirón registered his second consecutive multi-goal effort and third of the season.
