MIES, Switzerland/HELMOND, Netherlands - FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, on Thursday announced that ABEO-owned SCHELDE SPORTS has been appointed as the official supplier of backstop units for FIBA's top level international competitions until 2020, including the first-ever 32-team FIBA Basketball World Cup taking place in China from August 31-September 15, 2019.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA (FIBA Women's Melanesia Basketball Cup 2017) - Solomon Islands were a bit of a wild card coming into the first ever FIBA Women's Melanesia Basketball Cup 2017. They gave New Caledonia a shock with a 6-point Day 1 win; Joycelyn Besia was a big part of this win with 12 points.

Lausanne, 28 September 2017 – The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has issued its decision in the arbitration procedure between the Jersey Football Association (JFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) relating to the UEFA Executive Committee’s decision of 1 September 2016 to reject JFA’s application for UEFA membership. The CAS Panel has 1) set aside the UEFA EC Decision and ordered that JFA’s application be forwarded to the UEFA Congress for consideration and 2) dismissed JFA’s request to “take all necessary measures to admit the JFA as a full member of UEFA without delay”.

MIES (FIBA Hall of Fame) - Considered by many to be the greatest international team of all time, the Dream Team - the 1992 USA Olympic basketball team - is being honored with induction to the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2017.
The Dream Team is being enshrined into the Hall of Fame alongside former players Shaquille O'Neal (USA), Toni Kukoc (Croatia), Mickey Berkowitz (Israel), Pero Cameron (New Zealand), Razija Mujanovic (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Valdis Valters (Latvia) as well as coaching great Dusan Ivkovic (Serbia). They were selected from a list of more than 150 candidates. 
Cricket South Africa President, Chris Nenzani, confirmed that CSA and Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat, have mutually agreed to part ways with immediate effect.
Nenzani stated that the reason was due to a breakdown in the relationship between the Board and the Chief Executive. 
The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) of Ghana has inaugurated the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2018 Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Ghana.
Ghana were handed the hosting rights of the 13th edition of the biennial international women’s football championship by Africa’s football governing body, CAF, back in 2016.

MUNICH, Germany (FIBA Europe Cup) - The pairings for Qualification Round 2 of the FIBA Europe Cup have been set, following the conclusion of Qualification Round 1 on Thursday night.
The 10 winners of the first qualification phase will face 10 seeded teams in the second round, with the games to be played in a home-and-away format. The first leg is scheduled for October 3-4, with the return leg set to take place on October 10-11. 
It has been a busy period of international netball in the past couple of months with the Quad Series, Pent Series, Taini Jamison Trophy, SEA Games and others all taking place.
The INF World Rankings have been updated to reflect matches played between the 1st July and 13th September 2017.

The South African U20 women’s national team is looking to finish off the job when they travel to Windhoek to face Namibia in the second leg of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup at the Sam Nijouma Stadium on Sunday, 1 October.

Italian Serie A football club Lazio has extended its partnership with French car manufacturer Renault.

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has congratulated warmly the players, technical and management team of the Black Stars B Team for winning this year’s West African Football Union Cup “in excellent style”, after defeating Nigeria by four goals to one in the finals.
According to President Akufo-Addo, the success of the Black Stars B team has proven that football in the country is not on the decline, as many would want Ghanaians to believe.

Director of Sports, Ibrahim Bangura has urged all other sporting disciplines in dispute to emulate the Sierra Leone Athletics Association (SLAA) to achieve lasting peace within their sports familes. Bangura who was addressing officials, members and journalists in Tuesday’s press conference to mark the symbolic signing of peace agreement between the Abdul Karim Sesay and Martin Bangura factions said it’s an exemplary display worth emulating.

Sierra Leone’s 2016 Rio Olympic Games sprinting representative, Ishmael Dudu Kamara is keen to defend his National championship title when the rejuvenated Sierra Leone Athletics Association tournament gets underway today September 28th at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown. The two-day championship will attract over 150 athletes from the four regional areas in the country and Kamara is still hopeful he can defend his national title on a good footing. |
