FIFA President Gianni Infantino has reminded Ghanaians that they have to lead not only Africa, but the world in general to promote and develop the game of football due to the achievements of the Black Stars.
The Swiss national praised the government and people of Ghana for their contribution to football and hoped that more would be done for regional bodies like WAFU, the West African Football Union in terms of funding tournaments and development programmes.

Four Sierra Leonean cricketers; Lansana Lamin, Edward Ngegba, John Bangura and James Tommy are expected to depart the country’s shores on 27th February 2017 for a-month long elite cricket training in India. The quartet who were selected by the Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) Management and Board members in January will have to undergo several skills training including technique in the T20 and 50 overs matches.

ROME (FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2017) - Italy went 20 years between appearances at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup. Now they have reached two straight tournaments and Italian coach Andrea Capobianco is hoping his team can play with the same intensity as the U18 qualifiers. 
Budding international sprint sensation Maggie Barrie has again broken her own national record for Sierra Leone in the 400 meters Indoor event during this weekend at the Big 10 Championships in Ohio where her University (The Ohio State University) participated.
Maggie took no time in attacking her own personal best time and Sierra Leone National Record of 54.15 seconds to lower it to 53.46 seconds in the preliminary heats of the women’s 400 meters event which now stands as the new national record. 
The New Zealand derbies are always thrilling and a joy to watch, the Australians leave us cold, and among the South African teams, the Lions are worth cancelling a date for.
Here then are 10 Super Rugby matches to look forward to this season. All times given are South African times. Highlanders v Crusaders (Saturday March 4, 8.35am) This is always a highlight on the fixture schedule, with both teams adopting an enterprising style of rugby with try-scoring the ultimate goal. Last year the Highlanders edged the Crusaders 34-26, with this match in round two sure to be as thrilling with several superstar All Blacks on show. 
Egypt and Mali played out a barren draw in their Group A clash on Sunday at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
Both teams exhibited some good football display on a soggy pitch but it was Egyptian goalie Mohamed Ghandour, who was the hero for his side, standing between the Malians and goal. The result leaves hosts Zambia at the top of the standings after beating Guinea 1-0 earlier in the tournament opener at the same venue. Zambia has three points, Egypt and Mali in that order with a point each and Guinea in that order pointless. 
Hosts Zambia made a bright start to the Total U-20 Africa Cup of Nations after a 1-0 win over Guinea in their opening Group A match on Sunday at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
Guinea dominated the early stages but hardly troubled Zambia goalkeeper Mangani Banda. Beston Chambeshi side found its feet after 20 minutes that saw midfielder Edward Chilufya’s send his header just wide off a Prince Chiluya corner.

We respect every team because the eight teams here are the best in the youth category on the continent. Therefore, we take every game seriously and believe in our philosophy. The performance of our senior team (winners of the Total AFCON Gabon 2017) is a motivation for us, but we are not under any form of pressure. We have the blessings of the senior team and we hope to get good results. In my team, you can find some of the best U-20 players you can imagine. They are players with a different philosophy compared to other teams. We have worked very hard and we will show what we have on the pitch.

Kofi Bruce, founder of the Inter Departments Football (INDADFA) League was buried on February 24 in Accra after funeral service at the Gethsemane Methodist Church at Mamprobi.
The late Kofi Bruce who played for the Black Stars and Accra Hearts of Oak in the 1970s was an astute administrator who also worked at the Cocoa Marketing Board (CMB). He passed on in December 2016 after a short illness.

One year on from the Extraordinary FIFA Congress 2016, FIFA Deputy Secretary General Zvonimir Boban spoke about the practical side of the reforms implemented and the new structure at the organisation. As part of the restructuring of FIFA into two distinct parts, you are responsible for the development of football and the execution of football operations. What is your assessment of the work done so far? FIFA’s new operating structure, devised by the FIFA President and approved by the Council, has brought about greater clarity and coherence on everybody’s roles and responsibilities. This has guaranteed that all the different departments are aligned in creating an organisation which is more efficient, dynamic and which works together.

Antilles IBF Hoops Final
CASTRIES - Organized by the International Basketball Foundation, the Lesser Antilles Youth Tournament "3x3 Hoops" is set to take place in only a few days on 25-26 February in St. Lucia. 76 youngsters between the age of 15 and 17 are making the trip to Castries City today. The tournament will take place at the Vigie Multi Purpose Sports Complex.

KRAKOW (EuroCup Women) – Wisla Can-Pack head coach Jose Hernandez has expressed his excitement in the wake of his side being drawn against Hatay in the EuroCup Women Quarter-Finals. The Spanish play-caller has had to battle with injuries to key players for much of the campaign, with kingpin Ewelina Kobryn missing for a large chunk of the season.

While the recent CAF Africa Cup of Nations, from which Cameroon emerged victorious, only offered one ticket to the upcoming FIFA Confederations Cup (to the winners), this year’s CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, which starts on 26 February in Zambia, generously offers four berths to the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017. Consequently, the semi-finalists at the continental tournament will join the 16 teams that have already qualified for the global contest, which runs from 20 May to 11 June.

There is just over one month to go until the IAAF World Cross Country Championships Kampala 2017 when the athletics world will focus its attention on the Ugandan capital as it hosts this biennial gathering of the world’s finest middle and long distance runners on Sunday 26 March. The oldest of the IAAF World Athletics Series competitions, this year's event will mark the 42nd staging of the global cross country championships. It will also be the fifth time the championships will be hosted by Africa after Rabat in 1975, Stellenbosch in 1996, Marrakech in 1998 and Mombasa in 2007. 
Will Voigt led Nigeria to a first-ever continental title at AfroBasket 2015
BEIJING (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019) - The man that led Nigeria to their first FIBA AfroBasket title two years ago and also guided them at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Will Voigt, is optimistic he will sign a new contract to continue coaching the team in the coming weeks. Currently coaching in China with CBA side Shanxi Dragons, Voigt wants to be at the helm of D'Tigers when they go for glory again at FIBA AfroBasket 2017 in Congo-Brazzaville. He would prefer to have a full-time position with Nigeria. 
A fundamental pillar of the IAAF Reforms approved in December 2016 was the need for an independent panel of experts to oversee and assess the eligibility of new and existing officials being put forward for, or continuing to serve in, IAAF roles.
The panellists are required to be independent of the IAAF, with experience in screening applicants and candidates for appointments to official positions. 
26 February 2017 – The South African u20 Men’s National Team (Amajita) will be without captain Tercious Malepe in their opening match of the 2017 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations when they take on Cameroon on Monday, 27 February 2017 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia.
Malepe will be serving his one match suspension following the second yellow card he received in the qualifiers against Lesotho in June last year. Head Coach Thabo Senong believes that although the captain will be missed, they have prepared for this. |
