KIGALI (FIBA Africa U18 Championship) – Angola saw off Egypt 84-65 in the final Group B game to remain unbeaten and confirm top spot at the ongoing FIBA Africa U18 Championship in Kigali, Rwanda.
Bruno Fernandes amassed 26 points including four three pointers and 10 rebounds to inspire Angola to a much deserved victory in front of a fully packed Amahoro National Stadium.
Egypt had taken a slim 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter but Angola gained control of their destiny thereafter.
Hosts Rwanda pulled off a famous victory over Algeria 53-40 to secure second place in Group A. With the backing of the home crowd, Rwanda displayed an edge over the North Africans to shed off disappointment from their Mali loss on Monday.
Democratic Republic of Congo recorded their highest victory at the tournament following a 120-65 win over Benin. The result improved their ratio to 2-3 to finish fourth in Group B.
Jospin Kakule scored the most points with 32 as the debutants continued their dream performance at the continental showpiece.
Tunisia defeated Uganda 89-73 after they took advantage of a lapse in concentration from the East Africans camp.
Uganda led the first quarter 21-20 but a continuous run of turnovers in the last three minutes of the last quarter cost them what would have been a remarkable victory.
Mali maintained a 100% winning record with a convincing 91-39 win over Gabon to go top of Group A with eight points from four wins.
