Following a feisty contest last week which saw Sporting Kansas City prevail over the Portland Timbers 1-0 at home, the two teams are back at it again, this time at Providence Park, in an action-packed MLS Soccer Sunday (4 p.m. ET, ESPN/ESPN Deportes). SKC forward Jacob Peterson’s game-winning goal provided his squad with a tremendous lift as the two teams are currently battling for postseason positioning, with Portland (29 points, 7-8-8 record) currently sitting below the red line in seventh behind Sporting Kansas City’s fourth-place spot in the Western Conference (34 points, 10-10-4 record). Last Sunday’s match continued a recent trend of dramatic outcomes between the two teams, most notably last year’s exhilarating penalty kick shootout at Providence Park that saw an MLS-record 22 players take spot kicks. Portland came out victorious following an infamous miss by SKC defender Saad Abdul-Salaam that saw his potential game-winner hit off the post twice. With the teams returning to the scene of the crime on Sunday, more of the same fireworks are to be expected.
