AFCON PEDIGREE:
Having come so close to claiming the famed trophy on more than occasion Zambia went all the way in 2012, recording a memorable victory over the Ivory Coast in a tense penalty shootout after the match ended in a goalless stalemate. That success was achieved under the stewardship of coach Herve Renard, who was unable to inspire his side to replicate the same feat the following year.
Prior to their 2012 success, Zambia had secured two runners-up finishes and three third-place spots.
SQUAD OVERVIEW:
The Chipolopolo squad has, understandably, undergone a notable transformation since the departure of former coach Renard.
Honour Janza is making a concerted effort to usher in the stars of tomorrow, but there were more than a few raised eyebrows after the ZAmbia coach opted to leave former skipper Christopher Katongo and fellow striker James Chamanga out of his final 23-man squad.
The likes of young trio Jackson Mwanza, Patrick Ngoma and Evans Kangwa made the final cut, while 19-year-old Lubambo Musonda, currently plying his trade with Ulisses in Armenia, and 20-year-old Spencer Sautu have added a youthful exuberance to Janza's midfield options.
Bloemfontein Celtic's Davies Nkausu, 29, is the oldest defender in the squad, with goalkeeper and vice-captain Kennedy Mweene, 30, the side's elder statesman.
