The planned Western Area Football Association (WAFA) December 11-12 congress has been rumored to be postponed following an advice from several higher authorities.
An official statement is expected to be released on Wednesday December 2 by the authorities concerned over the decision but according to close sources within the Sports Ministry, the decision came from the powers that be.
The alleged congress postponement could be traced to an earlier post on social media, on a WhatsApp group where the Deputy Sports Minister, Al Sankoh Conteh asked: “Is there any need for a WAFA election under the current circumstance, when President Koroma had asked to return to the same status quo after the cancelation of the Eastern Region F.A election?”
“If elections of WAFA go ahead as scheduled will it not result in a denial of the instructions of President Koroma?”
The congress postponement will give the Abdul Kaninseu led WAFA administration an extended term in office. The former president of Ports Authority FC was elected as WAFA boss in December 2011 to replace veteran administrator Alhaji Unisa Alim ‘Awoko’ Sesay.
