A scoreless draw with Sweden last Friday prevented the U.S. Women’s National Team from officially securing a spot in the Women’s World Cup knockout round, but it enters the final leg of the group stage in excellent position. Barring a blowout loss to Nigeria in Tuesday’s match (8 p.m. ET, Fox, NBC Universo), the U.S. will advance through to the round of 16. After playing Sweden to a dramatic 3-3 draw in its opening match, Nigeria was shutout by Australia on Friday. It enters tomorrow’s match with just one point and a minus-2 goal differential, setting the stage for a daunting uphill battle in order to advance. If the U.S. hold on to win Group D, then it will likely face the loser of Wednesday’s Group F showdown between Colombia and England. Alternatively, if the USA finishes second in Group D, then it will face Brazil in the round of 16.
