
Cairo, Egypt, July 26, 2015 - Tunisia completed the semifinal lineup at the 2015 Men's African Nations Championship after they overpowered Morocco 3-1 (25-19, 16-25, 25-22, 29-27) in Day 5 of the competition held at the Cairo Stadium Complex in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday.
Tunisia joined the already qualified Egypt and Algeria from Pool A and Morocco from Pool B.
In the semifinals on Tuesday, defending champions Egypt and leaders of Pool A face Morocco, second in Pool B. Tunisia, top of Pool B, meet Algeria, who were second in Pool A.
Tunisia led Pool B with 10 points from 3-1 followed by Morocco with 9 points from 3-1. Cameroon were third (8 point, 3-1), then Rwanda fourth (3 points, 1-3) and Mauritius fifth (0, 0-4).
Tuesday also features two matches in the playoffs for positions 5 to 8, as Kenya play Rwanda and Cameroon take on Botswana.
The African Championship will qualify two African teams for the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup in Japan from September 8-23. The finalists will secure tickets to the prestigious global event.
Pool B
Tunisia v Morocco 3-1 (25-19, 16-25, 25-22, 29-27)
Tunisia overwhelmed Morocco 3-1 (25-19, 16-25, 25-22, 29-27) in the Pool B decider. Tunisia led the pool with a 3-1 win-loss record (10 Pts), while Morocco came second with 3-1 (9pts). Mohamed Hachdadi led the match scorers with 25 points as the best scorer of the day for the third day in a row. Marouen Garci led the Tunisian scorers with 20 points.
The match was very exciting, especially when Morocco drew level at 1-set all and Tunisia regained their rhythm led by Garci to win the third and fourth sets on their way to a 3-1 victory.
Cameroon v Rwanda 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-17)
Cameroon beat Rwanda 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-17) in a Pool B match lasting 75 minutes to improve their win-loss ratio to 4-1 with 8 points. Rwanda dropped to a 1-3 win-loss ratio, to finish fourth in the pool. Jean Ndaki was the top scorer for Cameroon with 12 points, followed by Olivier Nongoni with 11 points. Guma Yakan led Rwanda and the match scorers with 14 points.
