The chairman of the FIFA Monitoring Committee Israel-Palestine, Tokyo Sexwale, will be heading a FIFA delegation on a two-day visit to Israel and Palestine on 30 June and 1 July. The delegation will hold meetings with the Israeli political authorities, including Israeli Minister of Culture and Sport Miri Regev, and representatives from the Israel and Palestinian Football Associations. The delegation will visit Tel Aviv, Ramallah and Gaza. Mr Sexwale has already had discussions with the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas.

The Monitoring Committee was established by the 65th FIFA Congress in May 2015 and its mandate was recently extended at the 66th FIFA Congress in Mexico. Acknowledging the challenges of the current football situation in the region, the committee, which, as mandated by the FIFA Congress, includes leaders of the Israel and Palestinian Football Associations, strives to facilitate the identification of solutions to enable the development of football in the region.
In addition, the delegation will confer with representatives of COGAT (Coordination of Government Authorities in the Territories), which is the body responsible for implementing the Israeli government's policy in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
On Friday, 1 July, the delegation will visit the Palestinian Football Association (PFA) headquarters in Gaza and inspect facilities in the area.
Mr Sexwale’s visit will also be aimed at paving the way for a forthcoming trip to the region by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, with whom Mr Sexwale is in constant contact over the matter. Lastly, the delegation will hold a media briefing after the visit to Gaza.
