MIES - Francois Thiebaud, President of leading Swiss watch-maker and timing specialists Tissot, met with FIBA President Horacio Muratore, FIBA Secretary General Patrick Baumann and International Basketball Foundation (IBF) President Yvan Mainini at the House of Basketball on Wednesday.
"Tissot is deeply involved in the world of basketball," he said. "The partnership we have enjoyed with FIBA since 2008 that enables us to have top events and our partnership with the NBA, arguably the top basketball league in the world, means there is extraordinary media coverage and TV visibility that goes far beyond the United States and the American continent, extending into Europe and Asia," he said. "Add to that our partnership with the CBA and it's fantastic to think we have an association with FIBA and the top two basketball leagues in the world."
The visibility that Tissot gets through its association with basketball is un-matched by any other sport. It's a source of immense pride to be a partner of this sport. - Thiebaud
Thiebaud was also clear on what Tissot's collaboration with FIBA entails.
"Being associated with a sport like basketball, that has a noble quality, does mean that we have to be up to the challenge. So we want to increase and maximise this partnership," he said.
To be a partner is to bring something to a partnership and we constantly strive to look at what we can bring more to assist basketball's stakeholders. - Thiebaud
One of Tissot's world-renowned partners is Tony Parker and Thiebaud fondly remembered a moment he shared with the French international.
"I remember I was with Tony Parker when he signed with Tissot at Champs Elysees and he told me 'Mr Thiebaud, I was talking with [former FIBA President] Yvan Mainini and he said what he likes about Tissot is that when they begin partnerships they continue them,'" he recalled.
"When we associate ourselves with something, it's not for four, five or six years. With all of the positives we take away from our partnership with FIBA, it would make no sense to end the relationship. When we 'got married' with FIBA, it was for an eternity that FIBA and Tissot will spend together."
FIBA President Horacio Muratore said: "Our partnership with Tissot has delivered great benefits for FIBA over the last eight years and we look forward to that continuing moving forward. We consider them to be more than partners. They are members of the FIBA family."
