Nagamura grabbed the headlines in Sporting KC’s thrilling 4-3 comeback victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday, scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals in the 87th and 94th minutes. Sporting Kansas City is just the second team in MLS history to overcome a two goal deficit after the 80th minute and record a win. With the victory, Sporting Kansas City now sits third in the Western Conference with an 11-4-7 record and total of 40 points. This marks Nagamura’s first MLS Player of the Week nod.
The Brazilian went on to snatch the victory at the death in the fourth minute of stoppage time. SKC midfielder Soni Mustivar whipped in a cross from outside the box that Nagamura headed past Vancouver keeper David Ousted to send the home crowd into a frenzy (watch goal).
Sporting Kansas City returns to MLS action on Wednesday, August 19, when it hosts the San Jose Earthquakes at Sporting Park at 8:30 p.m. ET (MLS LIVE).
