Senegal Team (SEN) - Senegal v Angola, Afrobasket 2015, Radès (Tunisia), Group Phase, 24 August 2015

RADES (AfroBasket 2015) - Senegal closed their AfroBasket 2015 Group Phase undefeated on Monday, while Mozambique came back from behind to beat Morocco and set up a Round of 16 meeting against Nigeria.

In the highly-anticipated game of the day, Antoine Mendy rescued Senegal from an imminent defeat as they defeated reigning champions Angola 74-73.

Mendy came up with a last second tap-in to finish with 17 points as Senegal ended Angola's nine-game winning streak at AfroBasket, dating back to 2013.

Carlos Morais hit five three-pointers on his way to 19 points, but the Angolans wasted a superb opportunity to stay undefeated in Group B.

Once again Gorgui Dieng proved crucial for Senegal as he finished with game-highs of 24 points and 9 rebounds.

Dieng and Mendy were the only Senegalese to score in double digits, while Morais, his younger brother Braulio Morais and Yanick Moreira were the three players with 10 or more points for Angola.

In the day's first game, Cape Verde topped Zimbabwe 76-65 to move onto the Round of 16 with a perfect 3-0 mark.

Veteran shooting guard Mario Correia and Jeff Xavier propelled the islanders with 18 points apiece, while Zimbabwe's duo of Eric Banda and Tatenda Maturere came up with 12 points each.

Although Zimbabwe managed a one-point lead early on, Cape Verde were in total control of the game.

As a result of the loss, Zimbabwe finished their Group D campaign with three defeats in as many games, and the Southern Africans will take on Egypt in the next round.

Cote d’Ivoire finished second in Group D as Souleyman Diabate excelled once again.

The 1.87m point guard's heroics continued as he ignited the Ivoirians to an 81-74 victory over Algeria.

Diabate played all but 56 seconds and finished with a team-high 26 points as they finished second in Group D behind Cape Verde.

He made all eight of his two-point attempts, hit two three-pointers and dished out a game-high 6 assists as the 'Elephants' improved to 2-1 heading into their Round of 16 clash against Mali on Tuesday.

Mohamed Harat's game-highs of 27 points and 14 rebounds off the bench for Algeria went to waste as they committed 20 turnovers.

Mehdi Cheriet added 15 points, but it was the Algerian substitutes which did the work as they contributed 44 points, more than half of the team's total.

In the day's other Group B game, Pio Matos rescued Mozambique from a potential match-up against tournament hosts Tunisia in the Round of 16 as they held off Morocco 85-82.

As a result of their first win, the Mozambicans will instead face Nigeria on Wednesday.

Matos, the MVP of the Mozambique League, hit a pull-up three-pointer to give his team an 81-78 lead with 29 seconds remaining and Morocco were unable to come back into the contest.

The 24-year-old guard went on to finish with 23 points to lead all scorers.

Morocco's Soufiane Kourodu came up with 21 points and 11 rebounds, but the North Africans had to finish the game without Reda Harras and Abderrahim Najah who fouled out in the final quarter and it proved costly.

The defeat dropped Morocco to 0-3 and last place in the group and a Round of 16 encounter with the Tunisians on Tuesday night.

Kourodu, a 2.10m center, dominated the painted area and Abdelhakim Zouita, Morocco's super athletic forward, added 19 points, but it was the combative Mozambican team that got to celebrate the taste of victory.
