
Cairo, Egypt, November 8, 2015 - The African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) has selected the Republic of the Congo to host the Men's African Olympic Qualification Tournament from January 7 to 14, 2016. The competition will be held in Brazzaville.
The competition winners will qualify for the volleyball tournament at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The teams ranked second and third will earn another chance to qualify for next year's Summer Games at the Intercontinental Olympic Qualification Tournament due to be held in the period from May 14 to June 5, 2016.
The African Olympic Qualification Tournament will take place in the same week as the European Olympic Qualification Tournaments scheduled to be held in Ankara, Turkey from January 4-9 (women) and Berlin, Germany from January 5-10 (men). Tunisia represented the African continent at the men's volleyball tournament at the London 2012 Olympic Games, while Egypt qualified for the event in Beijing in 2008. Tunisia and Egypt were also the African representatives at the 2015 edition of the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup in Japan.
