The Ivorians were motivated and mentally strong. Our problem was psychological. It was after two goals that we recovered and we lost two penalties. Cote d’Ivoire were enthusiastic than us. Everyone is disappointed with the result but I think finishing fourth amongst 16 participants is not really bad. At this competition, we have seen that the level of the local African player has improved. Losing this match is unfortunate, but we are satisfied with our placing.
Abdoul Aziz Keita (Captain, Guinea)
We were not depressed. At some point, things did not go well for us. I’m disappointed we lost. Michel Dussuyer was my coach for five years and I know him well. Now we have to look at the future and hope things will get better.
Michel Dussuyer (Head Coach, Cote d’Ivoire)
I decided to change team for the last game, because we had some players on the bench who were ready to help the team. We tried to bring in new faces.
Congratulations to my goalkeeper, Abdoul Karim Cisse for saving two penalties during the game. There were four penalties against us at this tournament and my goalkeepers saved on all four occasions. Our objective was to finish third and get a medal, and leave a good impression. I’m satisfied with the outcome but we could have done better.
Guinea is a remarkable team and we have to commend them for their performance
Yao Serge Nguessan (Captain, Cote d’Ivoire)
It was difficult when we started, but we bounced back and scored twice in the first half. We are going home with a medal and we are happy with that. We are proud of third place and we really wanted to show that we have a good local championship and have good local players too.
