With only one week left in the regular season, the Timbers took a big step towards securing a berth in the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs thanks to Adi’s game-winner against RSL on Oct. 14 and his brace in Portland’s thrilling 5-2 win over the LA Galaxy on Oct. 18. The feat in LA marked Adi’s fifth two-goal performance of the year, bringing his season goal total to 15 – a Timbers single-season MLS club record. With 24 career goals for the Timbers, the Nigerian is now Portland’s all-time leading goal scorer, surpassing Diego Valeri (23) for the record.
Four days later at the StubHub Center, Adi went on to help Portland stage an epic comeback that saw the Timbers score five goals in the second half. After the Galaxy went into halftime with a 1-0 lead, Adi leveled the game in the 65th minute after a wonderful team sequence. Valeri received the ball at midfield and fed Lucas Melano at the top of the box. Melano then flicked the ball into the path of Adi, who turned and finished a fantastic left-footed shot into the roof of the net (watch goal).
The Timbers would take the lead just three minutes later after Adi was fouled inside the penalty area. Adi stepped up to the spot and slotted a right-footed strike underneath a diving Donovan Ricketts to put the Timbers in front (watch goal).
With the two wins, the Timbers now sit fourth in the Western Conference with a total of 50 points. Portland finishes out the regular season on #DecisionDay, October 25, when they host the Colorado Rapids at Providence Park at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN3, MLS LIVE).
