
After opening his MLS goal campaign the week before, Alberg continued his scoring streak in Week 16, notching four goals in Philadelphia’s two games. Alberg now has five goals in MLS play this season all coming in the previous three matches, a count that rises to seven goals in the last four matches when including U.S. Open Cup play. The former Dutch Eredivisie player has the highest goals per 90 minutes mark in the league among players with five goals or more, and has helped Philadelphia stay atop the Eastern Conference standings (26 points, 7-5-5 record).
The hot streak continued for the 25-year-old in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Vancouver Whitecaps FC with the Dutch attacking midfielder giving Philadelphia a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. Alberg yet again found himself open in the box after recovering a shot off the woodwork and slotting it far post (Watch Goal). Alberg has now scored in four consecutive matches across all competition.
