Northern Irish actor James Nesbitt and English presenter Kate Abdo are set to take the roles of hosts at the upcoming FIFA Ballon d'Or Gala, where football's biggest names will all gather under one roof.
It will be a first appearance at the awards show for Nesbitt, a face familiar to many across the world having starred in the recent Hollywood rendition of The Hobbit. The seasoned actor and passionate Manchester United fan has received his fair share of awards in his time, but on 11 January he will turn master of ceremonies while rubbing shoulders with the game's standout performers
Following on from her successful debut at the gala a year ago, Abdo believes she now has a little more of an insight about what she's getting herself into. “When I got asked to do the Ballon d’Or last year I thought it was going to be a once-in-a-lifetime thing,” she said. “Knowing that I’ll be a part of it for the second time is a real privilege.
“You know who’s going to be in the crowd, you’ve seen the red carpet, you’ve seen all these faces that are legends of the game, that you’ve always admired being a sports reporter; people that you’ve followed their entire careers. And then you know, all of a sudden, they are going to be sitting in the audience and listening to you.”
