NEW YORK (Wednesday, October 28, 2015) – Montreal Impact forward Didier Drogba was voted Etihad Airways MLS Player of the Month by fans on MLSsoccer.com for the month of October for the 2015 MLS season.
Drogba spearheaded Montreal’s late-season playoff push by scoring four goals in five matches in October, including a two-minute brace in the Impact’s crucial 2-1 win versus rival Toronto FC on #DecisionDay. The former Ivorian international accounted for 66 percent of Montreal’s scoring output during the month of October and became the club’s leading goal scorer on the season with 11 tallies in 11 games. He claims his second consecutive Etihad Airways MLS Player of the Month award, joining Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco as the only players to win the honor multiple times this season.

In a 2-1 loss to the New York Red Bulls on October 7, Drogba opened his October account by converting a penalty kick with a strike tucked between the post and a sprawling Luis Robles (watch goal). That would mark Montreal’s last loss of the season, thanks largely to Drogba’s efforts against the Colorado Rapids and Toronto FC. The former Chelsea icon netted a scorching free kick from 30-yards out that propelled the Impact to a 1-0 road win in Colorado on Oct. 10 (watch goal).
With Montreal eyeing the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference on #DecisionDay, Drogba delivered his best performance of the month. The striker scored nearly identical back-heel goals in the 54th (watch goal) and 55th (watch goal) minutes – with the former earning an AT&T Goal of the Week nomination – which secured a home match for the Impact in the Knockout Round of the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs.
Drogba will look to maintain his electric form when the Montreal Impact host Toronto FC at Stade Saputo in the knockout match on Thursday, October 29 at 7:00 p.m. ET (UniMás, UDN, TSN1, TSN4, TSN5, RDS, MLS LIVE).
