Sierra Leone national team players have branded Saturday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Sudan as a must win game for them.
Leone Stars will host the Falcons of Jediane in Freetown in a crucial tie, and a win for the home side could revive their hopes of qualifying to the 2017 tournament finals in Gabon.
Greuther Fürth based midfielder; George Kweku Davies wants his teammate to take the clash with all seriousness and believes they can grab all three important points as he insisted to his teammates that it is a must win match for the team.
He said: “We need to go out there with all seriousness and give our all. We know Sudan will be coming into the game with a mentality to win and secure a draw, but we must map out a strategy to get a win. We are playing at home so we must make sure we get all three points”.
Sierra Leone is in group I alongside the tournament host; Gabon which has already qualified as tournament host. However, the battle to reach Gabon lie between Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast and Sudan.
Victory on Saturday will end Sudans chance of qualifying and increase Sierra Leone’s chances as they will immediately leap frog the Sudanese on goal difference but both teams will be tied up with four points.
The final group matches in September will then be the decider between Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone. The Ivorian’s are currently leading the group with five points but a win in Abidjan for Leone Stars could just be enough for them to reach the 2017 AFCON in Gabon.
