Former Bafana Bafana captain Steve Komphela was appointed as Kaizer Chiefs’ new head coach on Wednesday.
The 47-year old has replaced Englishman Stuart Baxter, and is the first South African coach since 2002 when Doctor Khumalo and Ace Khuse shared the position.
He’s signed a three year deal with the club.

“As far as the technical team is concerned, we are not making any changes,” said chairman Kaizer Motaung. “We welcome him back to the Kaizer Chiefs Village; he was once a player and also an assistant coach.”
Komphela resigned from Maritzburg United a few days ago, and said this was the “bravest” and “toughest” decision he’s ever made.
“As a local boy I am coming into a team that I believe is the best team in Africa,” he said. “This is a unique opportunity. It’s historic and I’m very excited.”
