
The 47-year old has replaced Englishman Stuart Baxter, and is the first South African coach since 2002 when Doctor Khumalo and Ace Khuse shared the position.
He’s signed a three year deal with the club.
Komphela resigned from Maritzburg United a few days ago, and said this was the “bravest” and “toughest” decision he’s ever made.
“As a local boy I am coming into a team that I believe is the best team in Africa,” he said. “This is a unique opportunity. It’s historic and I’m very excited.”
